Steven Waelbers is the founder of Kobi, a Leuven-based robotics company. After getting inspired by entrepreneurs during his 5 years in Investment- and Corporate Banking, he decided in 2015 to start his own business. His hobby of tinkering around with robotics thereby served as the spark from which Kobi was born.
Initially, Kobi was focussed on a multi-functional yard robot to mow the lawn, blow leaves and clear snow. The announcement of their multi-functional yard robot made headlines all over the world, and this put Kobi on the radar of nearly all top OEM’s in the outdoor power equipment industry. The overwhelming demand from OEM’s for their solution served as a pivotal point after which focus was shifted to AI, software and electronics for autonomous functions. This lead to a rapid growth of Kobi and eventually a successful acquisition in 2021.
Besides his work for The Kobi Company, Steven is investor, board member and mentor for several start-ups.
